Synopsis

Co-written with John Clark, Bob Ellis and Barry Dickins respectively, these three screenplays make a trilogy of love and death, the two great themes of Paul Cox's work. Lonely Hearts is a story of first love; My First Wife, the story of the disintegration of a mature relationship; and A Woman's Tale, is about the surviving partner of a wartime marriage who is succumbing to cancer. In all three films death is a constant presence and religion a broken need. Only love, made more precious by the prospect of its 'imminent, final interruption' gives meaning to life.

About the Author

Paul Cox Having been born in Sutton Coldfield, at 15, I joined the Royal Navy as a mechanic and travelled the world.  After leaving the Royal navy, I spent 2 years working on the oil supply vessels to the oil rigs - before working in the Hotel and Restaurant trade as a time served chef in East Anglia and Cumbria for 13 years.  Leaving the Hotel trade, I retrained as a carpenter and joiner, and worked the building trade and as a handyperson in a factory for 5 years.  With me suffering from a stress related illness, I went full time to college in Preston, achieving GCSE's and A-levels, before doing my history degree at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston.  That is when I decided to write my book, with me putting in my knowledge of all the things I have seen and done, and all the places and adventures I have had,  They say everybody has a book in them: this is mine.
I am currently living back in my home town of Sutton Coldfield.
