Why I wrote this book
Quite simply, I wrote Kabul Gold because I wanted to. I had felt the desire or ambition to write a book for a long time. One day, having read an article about the treasures in National Museum, Kabul, I shut myself away with my thoughts and ideas and began to write. It’s taken a long time, but having enjoyed the writing so much, I decided it would be a great way to change direction and start a new career, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I have now written the follow up to Kabul Gold, Perditions Daughters, and have the idea for the third Dan Temple adventure drafted. I love reading action and adventure novels and writing my own seemed to be a natural progression. I hope people will enjoy reading it as much as I have writing it.
Kabul Gold is based upon true events, the destruction of priceless artefacts in the national Museum in Kabul by the Taliban, the 9/11 attacks in New York, and the war in Afghanistan. One assumes it is still very topical and perhaps, in places, thought provoking.
Dan doesn't comapre himself to any authors but he is inspired by Lee Child, his personal story and style of writing. He also enjoy Wilbur Smith and Clive Cussler, amongst others.
Synopsis
It’s perhaps the perfect crime, undetected and untraceable, or is it? Oblivious to what he knows, Daniel Temple lives a quiet, simple life. A life shattered by Salim Oma Asgari and the assassination squad hired by Abbas Abdul Malik, multi billionaire owner of AAM industries. A drugs lord, arms dealer and owner of one the world’s largest private arts and antiquities collections. His legitimate businesses earn him billions, his criminal operations even more. His only weakness, the witness to the one illegal transaction that leads straight to him.
Salim’s assassins arrive in the dead of night. Their only problem, they had seriously underestimated the retired SAS officer. Failing to kill Daniel, Salim escapes. Aided by Malik’s henchman, Mr Khan, he flees, abducting Caroline, Temple’s girlfriend. Now, their plan is simple, draw Temple onto their own ground and kill him.
Dan Temple is as hard as they come and he needs to be. The price of failure will mean certain death and not just his own. Rescuing Caroline, Daniel pays a heavy price. He returns home to the temporary refuge of the Temple family estate. But the real challenge has yet to start. The battle with Malik only just beginning. Desperate and determined, Malik brings his wealth and power to bear, hiring a new army of assassins and mercenaries. All of them intent on killing Temple and keeping Malik’s secret.
Relentlessly, Daniel pursues Malik, moving through tranquil English countryside, scorching deserts and steaming jungles, to his final refuge. Deep in the hostile wilderness of the Sundarbans, Daniel goes to work. Finally, the two men face each other, deep in the mangrove jungle. But, Daniel isn’t the only predator. Daniel finds his way home and decides to re-enter the only world he knows, remaining the cold, enigmatic loner.
