Why I wrote this book
Following a series of personal tragedies, including the break-up of my relationship, financial ruin and worst of all, my younger brother’s terminal cancer, I found myself questioning my life’s choices and turned to writing as a form of self-discovery. Through reflecting on my experiences, I realised that many people focus all of their energy in trying to make others love them, and in doing so, forget to love themselves. Building on this, I created a story about a ‘people pleasing’ princess, believing this theme would resonate with many readers.
Inspired by my childhood love of fairy tales, and books such as Gulliver’s Travels and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince, I wanted to write books that were entertaining, full of profound observations of life, which would appeal to readers of all ages.
‘Perhaps the popularity of fairy tales shows that we are all children at heart, and that a return to simplicity is the order of the day. ‘Stories remind us that every day can be a new chapter in life, if we choose.’
Why is it different?
Living with Feet too Big for a Glass Slipper is book one of five in the Is What It Is Chronicles. The books are like looking at life through a kaleidoscope. It is full of colour – weird and wonderful characters, archetypal human themes, a fairytale setting and most importantly humour. I spent much of my life trying to fix things that I felt were wrong in my life. I used to beat myself up, enrolled on personal development courses galore, travelled the world, picked the wrong relationships only to discover that there was nothing really wrong in the first place. I was just on a journey and all those trials and tribulations were a means for me to grow. I was finally free to be and I wanted to write books that celebrate the human journey rather than tell people there was something wrong with them. Most importantly I wanted to make people laugh – as I have always believed that if you can laugh at some of your dubious choices things never quite seem that bad.
Why should a reader buy it?People should buy this book if they like to laugh and for those that find themselves questioning their life choices. Maybe people who feel stuck and don’t know how to make a change. Maybe people who are tired of taking themselves and life far too seriously. Anyone who has kissed their share of frogs on their journey to find their One. More importantly anyone who has a few minutes out of the day to escape into a magical world and forget their daily commute into work and start the day with a chuckle.
