Why I wrote this book
The Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology have written and illustrated two exciting new books suitable for children aged five to seven. These books tell the whole story of underwater archaeology. Through a quirky dialogue and adventurous story line, the books manage to explain some potentially complex and difficult topics to a very young age group. The second book is called Derek’s Fishy Adventure.

Synopsis
When Professor Archaeology and Professor Marie Time bump into Derek the Dredger, they realise that a great friendship could lead to some amazing new discoveries ...but they did not realise quite how dangerous the sea can be, or what sort of surprising things they might find!Reviews
“What Thomas the Tank Engine did for railways, Derek the Dredger is hoping to do for marine dredging!” - Nicholas Corne of United Marine Dredging Ltd
“I think you have done an impressive job! You have managed to deftly weave a host of facts and information into a wonderfully wacky adventure story full of good humour. The illustrations, done in bold, bright colours, are truly inspired, and a perfect match for the text. Each page is filled to overflowing with action and vitality - just what a good children's book needs to capture (and keep!) interest and attention. The glossary featureof the book is effectively written in 'child speak'.
As a classroom teacher, I think that the book would work well as a whole-class read aloud and also for one-on-one sharing. It has excellent browsing potential in addition to being solid reference material.”- Allison Mason School teacher
