Why I wrote this book

In my college years, a friend of mine who I had served as an executive member of a Christian club came to me one day and said to me; I met an old man on my way to your house, and he had said to me, son, hold fast to what you have, for if I had had what you have now, my life would have been in a better position.
Since that day, I have set myself to analyse life. One of the best services a man can render to his fellow man is to positively inspire him. A belly fed, saves a life for today, but a soul fed, saves a life for tomorrow!

In what ways and how best do we display the complex concept of love? How do our pursuits impact on another person’s life? I remember one day, one of my friends came up to me and asked, concern in her voice, why do you care for me so much and want nothing back from me? I had passionately looked into her eyes and said to her, I only want you to be happy. That’s all!

I hope that reading my stories, borne out of personal and biblical inspiration will inspire the reader with their own personal and spiritual strength and help them to achieve their individual destinies.

I compare my writing to: Leo Tolstoy (the death of Ivan Llyich and other stories) Victor Hugo (Les miserables) Fyodor Dostoyevsky (the idiot)

Synopsis

This book is a collection of short stories, geographical in location but universal in their morals.

A wise king’s life is chronicled in a series of parables.
A young man’s struggles in life shape his thoughts and understanding of life.
The journey of a young girl lost dreams leads her to finding true love.
A husband’s betrayal creates a dilemma for a devoted housewife.
Through a life of solitude, a young man discovers himself.
In Montana, four competitors are taught the secrets of human endeavours.
In a small African village, a young man chooses wishes over wealth.
A husband’s betrayal leads a woman to do something she never thought herself capable of.

Written to offer insight into how life's choices are influenced by life experience, and to show a range of different perspectives on moral issues, this collection is also a refreshing take on the short story genre. Author Freddy Fynn was born in Ghana, West Africa. Growing up in a community of storytellers had a big impact upon him and has helped him to create his unique writing voice. The eight tales contained within this collection are all influenced by African themes and a touch of Christian ideology. The collection includes tales such as: A King's Lullaby - in a small African village, a wise King's sayings are chronicled. In the Tenderness of Love a housewife must choose forgiveness or divorce after discovering her husband's infidelity.

About the Author

Freddy Fynn

I was born in 1982 and grew up in Praso, which is a few miles from the coast of Ghana, West Africa. My local community has a traditional history of story-telling, which is an important part of my cultural heritage. As a child I learnt some of the values of life whilst listening to my grandfather's stories and these early influences are reflected in the stories I am writing today.
Whilst at college, I had the privilege to serve as a student counsellor, an executive adviser of an independent club and club chaplain.

I left Ghana in 2001 to study at Nottingham University where I gained a BA (Hons) in finance and accounting and, subsequently, an MSc in banking and finance at Loughborough University.
During the time I have lived in the UK, I have always remembered, and been supported by, the Ghanaian stories of my childhood.

One of my other short stories reached the third round of judging in the recent Brits Writers Awards 2010, in the short story category. I am currently residing in Nottingham.
