Why I wrote this book

I found that once I started writing crime thrillers, my mind would not stop coming up with new ideas and kept needing to develop the lives of those characters that appear in all my novels. The Spanish Hotel just had to be written; otherwise I would not have slept at night.

The Spanish Hotel includes the mystery elements of police officers trying to solve a case that most crime thrillers have, but it also portrays the life of innocent victims caught up in the crime. There is a sprinkling of wry humour and wit along the way, and many of the characters lead colourful, rather than dowdy lives. It is not only the criminals that are naughty. Some may regard the hotel featured in the book as pure fantasy; others may ask if such places really exist. A small minority may have stayed in such a hotel.

It will appeal to a reader looking for a crime/mystery novel that is an easy read and never stands still; taking them into a world they probably will not have experienced themselves.

My writing could be compared to James Patterson’s lighter novels. It is different to Janet Evanovitch, but most who like her work, would also like my novels.

Synopsis

Alice Evans mysteriously falls from her fifth floor balcony. Unable to prove her fall was not suicide, DCI Collins knows that there is much more to the case. Alice's mysterious final words, and what turns out to be a liberal love life, with partners ranging from cafe owners to British Government advisors, all convince DCI Colins that there is more at stake. Then links between Alice's death and the questionable conduct of a high profile British politician start to emerge. This is a rip-roaring tale of murder, reminiscent of James Patterson, starting in London, moving to a small Spanish village and climaxing in Dubai. Along the way DCI Collins must battle against a wall of silence erected by the authorities in both Spain and the Middle East as he works to uncover a tangled web of vice and corruption.

Gary’s first novel, Katrina Will Know, was published in April 2009, and was quickly followed up with Swinging Undercover, The Spanish Hotel and now Down in The Woods.
