Why I wrote this book
I wanted to write a novel about the emotive subject of rape which I hope will reach women who have suffered abuse in silence and also promote understanding of the trauma that sexual assault can bring about. It is estimated that only one in ten rape victims report being raped. Based on these statistics the total number of women who have been raped within the UK is some 2 million, or one woman in nine. But rape isn't a statistic, it is a woman's horrifying ordeal which I hope my story portrays.
Synopsis
Lydia Wesley was twenty-two years old and only three days away from her dream wedding when her life changed irrevocably. While walking the family dog close to her parents' home she was brutally attacked, raped and defiled by a total stranger at knife-point. She reports it to the police and her attacker is charged with her rape. But Lydia's ordeal is far from over, not only does she have to face the trauma of the trial but the rapist threatens to come after her again, leading Lydia to realise that she is the only one who can impart justice.Reviews
In 'Naked Justice', Susan Morris has tackled head on the harrowing subject of rape. She has explored through her fictional character, 'Lydia Westly', the nightmare of being sexually assaulted, and she has also dealt with the failings of the English judicial system in dealing with rape trials. Susan describes in realistic detail how the trauma and the consequences of rape impact on a victim, her family, her friends and all those around her. But Susan Morris has taken her story one step further by expressing the dark desire for revenge that many victims feel, by allowing 'Lydia' to take the law into her own hands, serving Justice of a kind.Book info
