Why I wrote this book

Fredric Alcock was born in Sheffield in 1941 and lived on the next street to his friend Joe Cocker. Soon after leaving school he formed  “The Jetblacks” a rock band with which he went  on to tour in Europe playing the Top Ten Club in Hamburg and many other famous German clubs during the Sixties. He spent several years touring with his band, appearing on the same bill as many of the stars of that time such as Billy Haley and The Comets, The Everley Brothers and The Who to name a few. One night, while playing a club in Frankfurt, Manfred Mann and Chris Farlowe  walked in. Chris Farlowe was then riding high with his No 1 hit “Out Of Time”. Fred and Chris soon struck up a relationship which led to Fred and his fellow bandmember Steve Crane writing several album tracks and “B” sides for Chris over the next few years. Some years later at a songwriting workshop, Fred met another writer called Paul Arnold. The relationship clicked and has led to them writing many songs together.
It was whilst they were in Nashville recording some new songs that the idea for Spacecoyotes was born.

Paul Arnold was born in Sheffield in 1972 a mere stones throw (but thirty years) away from his future writing partner, Fredric. As a teenager he became quite obsessive about music and after a brief (and very noisy) flirtation with the drums, settled upon the guitar as his instrument of choice. The neighbours were eternally grateful! Splitting his time between University and touring the UK with his rock band, Paul eventually came out of the other side with a Masters Degree in Pathology, a passion for writing and an intimate understanding of Britain’s ‘seedy dives’. It was during a well earned rest from the late nights and loud guitars that Paul met Frederic at a
songwriters workshop and quite unexpectedly struck up what was to become a long and extremely creative relationship. Together they have written and recorded with several top writers and producers in Nashville, culminating in the very successful song, ‘You’re the reason I breathe’ for rising star, Austin Cody.

Synopsis

When fourteen year old JoJo’s dreams of joining the elite SpaceCoyote Academy are ruined by a sinister plot against her, she is drawn into a dark secret kept hidden from her family for forty years.

Determined to uncover the truth and following the only clue she has, JoJo sets out with her reluctant younger brother, 2B on a perilous journey to the other side of the galaxy. Her destination, a planet so dangerous that no one on Anilar dare even speak its name.

So begins a spine tingling adventure that sees JoJo battle not only her own fears and prejudices, but an unknown and unseen enemy willing to do anything to stop her uncovering the secret of the Blue Planet.

Meanwhile on earth, in the heart of Apple Valley, teenager Jimmy Green has his own problems. His rock band, Applejuice, have just won through to the final of the town’s prestigious Battle of the Bands competition, and they have lost their singer.

As Jimmy’s dream of winning the competition is fast turning into a nightmare, he and the band are suddenly plunged into an extraordinary adventure when they discover a crashed UFO in the middle of the apple orchard and … its two surviving alien pilots! With both sides unsure who to trust, the story takes us through Jimmy and JoJo’s budding friendship as they quickly realise the only way they can both succeed is to join forces. Whilst Jimmy is astounded by JoJo’s amazing ‘alien’ talents (Vocalosis and Picture Walking), JoJo discovers that Jimmy and his band hold the key to not only getting her home, but finally unlocking the secret that brought her there in the first place.

As forces strive to stop them at every turn, music, magic and space are brought together in an explosive climax as Jimmy and JoJo’s two worlds collide and they find themselves fighting for their own survival.

About the Author

Paul Fredrics The idea for the SpaceCoyotes first rip-roaring adventure, began in a small broom cupboard, in an upstairs apartment, in Nashville TN. Absolutely true!
Over there writing and recording songs, we (Paul and Fredric) were trying to save money by staying above the office of our friend and song publisher, Sheb Wooley. However, due to on-going renovations, Fredric quickly commandeered the only bedroom leaving myself (Paul) with the option of either sleeping on a broken sofa, or squeezing an airbed into the broom cupboard. I chose the latter for reasons of obvious comfort.
It was there, one evening after a long day in a recording studio, that Fredric told me all about this great idea he had for a children’s book. It was about music, magic and space. And he had a name, SpaceCoyotes.
Many, many hours later, our imaginations and enthusiasm truly ignited, we had enough notes for a trilogy of novels.
‘The Secret of the Blue Planet’ is the first.
Little did I know then, however, just how much these SpaceCoyotes would take over our lives. Getting the story told has been a long, but fascinating and thrilling ride, and we are still only at the beginning.
So please, join us. Release your imagination and enter the world of the SpaceCoyotes. It is a book about secrets, a book about betrayal, but most of all, it is a book about good old fashioned friendship.
We only hope that you enjoy reading it as much as we have enjoyed writing it.
Paul.
Ps. If you’ve never read a children’s fantasy sci-fi novel before, give this a go. Honestly, it’s not scary at all, and you may be surprised by just how much you enjoy it.
