Why I wrote this book

So you believe you control your own life and make your own decisions? This book encourages readers to think again. Basic logic should show us that Free Will is, in fact, only a fantasy. If evolution governs everything - as it does - and evolution, both biological and cultural, only operates by Natural Selection - as it does - there can be no such thing as Self Determination. Even if you are unable to accept the logic of this book, it will make you think - or re-think - what life is about. The book also reprises the suggestion that a local flood - with the Aquatic Ape Hypothesis - is the most plausible explanation for our emergence as Homo sapiens.

Synopsis

Some people inhabit their existence, from conception to demise, without being capable of considering any alternative understanding to what is generally accepted by society. Others, by chance, are able to contemplate the meaning, if there is one, of human reality.

As It Is will appeal to anyone who spends time considering their existence as Homo Sapiens. The book is compact, easy to read and should be enjoyed by anyone who thinks.

Reviews

"More of us are continuing to think this: that for a limited time humankind has come out of one huge complex system of organic life on our changing earth. Michael Greening's independent thoughts can be easily understood and fit in with many of the latest scientific developments." --- Professor Michael Boulter: distinguished evolutionary biologist at the Natural History Museum, author of "Extinction and the End of Man" (2002) & "Darwin's Garden" (2008).

Mr Robin Ansell: "This remarkably straightforward short book answers many of the questions that thinking people have found difficult throughout their lives. Logic is at the core of the many examples which the author takes from his own experiences. In the preface he uses an example which demonstrates the pattern of his thinking throughout the book. Right from the beginning, therefore, one can see the particular train of thought that is used to justify his thinking . It should be noted, at this stage, that the author never attempts to condemn people's existing beliefs. The book is never destructive or negative but clearly sets down ideas which encourage readers to consider their own experiences in a logical way. This book has been written to show life 'As it is' and may help many readers to find answers to difficult questions. So, if you've struggled with conventional beliefs or their alternatives, read this very sensible and helpful book. You may find that you have a problem solved."

About the Author

An idyllic childhood, spent in a large rambling country rectory, followed by boarding school and a few years as an army officer ended with the author arriving - at his early twenties - both unqualified and unemployable. Although then keen to write, a foreign wife, a growing family and mortgages left him no alternative other than to become an entrepreneur and live on his wits. Although he became a successful businessman, he found little time to write until a few years ago when he was able to semi-retire. To date he has published two books on Family History and this short 'reflection' on Logic. He is currently working on a novel.
