Why I wrote this book

I have always loved well formed stories and was particularly gripped by the series of Indiana Jones films that were released in my teens. I loved the fact that the fast paced, nail biting action was built up around what was essentially a very simple storyline; the fluidity and rhythm of the unfolding story just washed the viewer along without stopping. I wanted to write a book that read like that: a book that had the same simple story line; fast paced action interspersed with nail biting tension; and told with a rhythm that would just sweep the reader along to the end, after which, hopefully, they'd be begging for more. I started by asking myself a simple question. What would be the greatest archaeological discovery ever? What if something were discovered that would really alter the workings of the world. What if that something changed the dynamics of the human race by causing a dramatic shift in the survival instinct that drives us all? Wouldn't that discovery, if there was one, have an untold effect on the world as we know it? I found the answer to that question and that was when Darkmere was formed.

Synopsis

After a spate of sinister drownings in Darkmere a pontoon is built over the centre of the lake. The pontoon is covered and sealed off from the public. The residents of Darkmere assume the pontoon has something to do with police forensics but Thomas and Emily are not so convinced. When Emily discovers the infinite black Hole impossibly holding back the lake water beneath the pontoon, it sets in motion a chain of events that changes their lives terribly forever. Jeremiah and Shae-nae know of the horror on the other side of the Hole because they've been there. When the Hole spits them out in Darkmere they are just glad to be alive, but they soon realise to their horror, that they are not the only things to have been spat out by the Hole. All four teenagers are bound by a fate that began drawing them together thousands of years before they were even born. Now they are fatefully united in Darkmere at the most crucial moment in the world's history. Levi Washington intends to reveal to the world the secret of the Hole. It is a secret that will cause a shattering change in the fortunes of the human race.
