Why I wrote this book

Trapped in a world where the female of the species is dominant, domestic drudge Peregrine Farouche longs to escape his dreary hometown Rampick and the prospect of marrying violent, miserly publican Avoirdupois Alecost.

Then one day, he meets dashing rogue Amoret Artemis and is swept off his feet. But Amoret is a Giaour, and as such is regarded as a heathenish pariah by the Zoetic Church. Pere, a devout Zoetic, abandons his indoctrinated fear of the Church to be with her, in the hope she will whisk him away to the far horizons he craves.

But the only thing looming on the horizon for them is the ‘blood purge’: a fearsome inquisition conducting probing investigations into the faith and loyalty of every subject in the realm.

The Blood Purge challenges virtually every preconceived idea of the Fantasy genre, reversing not only social and sexual roles, but also political, cultural, moral and even temporal understandings to an extent beyond ‘gimmicky’ superficiality.
