Synopsis

Angela Lawson, or Angel, works as an agony aunt for a teenage magazine. She's in charge of dolling out advice to troubled readers. Trouble is, she's too busy fretting about her own problems to take any of their's seriously.

She lives in a tired house with her unemployed, but loveable, flatmate Ellie. They live above Kreepy Kevin, a man with bloodshot eyes, straggly beard and a large pet python. When Kevin goes missing, and the police come round, things all get a little bit Kreepier...

Angel is seeing Nicholas Sheldon-Wade, a 29 year old with Arian good looks and a high powered job in the City. Ellie thinks he's no good. Angela thinks he's gorgeous, and her only chance for happiness. When it goes wrong she sinks to a new low, turning to the page and her friends to unload her worries. Newly single, she accompanies Mel to her son's Parents' Day, where she meets Charlie, an English teacher. He has scruffy dark hair, good looks and gorgeous blue eyes. Angel insists they are just friends, but is she in denial? When he's seen out with a blonde her suspicions' about men are confirmed, and she turns to the cocky new boy at work for comfort and a few double vodkas...

Then there's her best friend Rick, the gay hypochondriac who studies medicine and thinks he's dying of every disease imaginable. Mary, who writes to Angel regularly about her cheating husband Bernard. She turns up at the office one day and makes a big announcement. Then Richard, Angel's nemesis, constantly dreaming up ways to increase her workload and show her up. And Mel and Peter who after years of living in sin agree to tie the knot. But does it all go smoothly?

This laugh-out-loud, fast-paced novel will have you in tears of laughter.

About the Author

Cesca Martin I'm 25 years old and live in Bristol, at home, with my parents. For which I am regularly mocked. Agony Angel is my first novel.

I started writing after graduating from Bristol University in 2003. I signed up for a stream of part time jobs to fund the writing of the book and worked as a cocktail waitress, receptionist, shopping telly dolly bird, promotional girl, football reporter, actress, TV Bingo presenter, researcher on "Deal or No Deal", lacrosse coach and general office monkey until it was finished.

Now I have got all grown up and am embarking on a career as a History teacher. I wanted to write a book that would appeal to women of all ages. A book that was fast-paced, a little ridiculous, good fun and - of course - filled with attractive men!

I've always enjoyed writing about disaster, embarassment and general chaos, and can confirm that all the events in this book are fictional... yes, even the most toe-curling. Oh, and no pet pythons were hurt in the making of it...!

Thank you for checking out the book. I absolutely loved the character of Angel, so I hope you enjoy reading about her as much as I enjoyed writing about her...
