Freddy Fynn
I was born in 1982 and grew up in Praso, which is a few miles from the coast of Ghana, West Africa. My local community has a traditional history of story-telling, which is an important part of my cultural heritage. As a child I learnt some of the values of life whilst listening to my grandfather's stories and these early influences are reflected in the stories I am writing today.
Whilst at college, I had the privilege to serve as a student counsellor, an executive adviser of an independent club and club chaplain.
I left Ghana in 2001 to study at Nottingham University where I gained a BA (Hons) in finance and accounting and, subsequently, an MSc in banking and finance at Loughborough University.
During the time I have lived in the UK, I have always remembered, and been supported by, the Ghanaian stories of my childhood.
One of my other short stories reached the third round of judging in the recent Brits Writers Awards 2010, in the short story category. I am currently residing in Nottingham.
